The Unicorns and Snoring Dragon

By Aashvi Saroagi

Once upon a time there was a unicorn named Starwings. She was a pretty purple unicorn with a magical horn, who loved helping others and going on adventures. She had a BFF and her name was Moonwings. Moonwings was a pretty pink unicorn. She was thoughtful and wise, often the one to find clever solutions when they were in trouble. She loved adventures as much as Starwings, though she was a little more cautious and careful.

They lived in Unicorn land. It was very colourful and was filled with unicorns, rainbows and white fluffy clouds. Also, there were butterflies and other majestic birds. The land was filled with vibrant coloured flowers. The roses were really pretty and grew in almost every shade- red, pink, purple, blue, yellow, peach and many many more. One day when she was walking in the unicorn land she noticed some smoke. She realized that it was coming from one end of the unicorn land.

She was really intrigued. She thought maybe it was coming from Spike, the dragon who lived in the outer part of the land. The unicorns had always been warned never to go near Spike’s cave.

Stories said his snores could shake the ground and his fire could turn meadows into ash. Starwings shivered at the thought, but her curiosity burned brighter than her fear.

“I have to know what’s happening,” Starwings whispered, her horn glimmering with excitement. She turned to her best friend. “Moonwings, will you come with me? I can’t do this alone.” “You know it’s dangerous. What if the stories are true?” she said softly. “Alright. If you’re going, I’m going too. Just… let’s be careful.”

So Starwings and Moonwings, side by side, set off on their adventure to find the dragon. They crossed mazes and rivers and many other obstacles. At last, the path grew darker and colder, and the air smelled faintly of smoke. When they reached near the cave, they could hear the loud snoring of the dragon. As they crept closer, the ground shook with each rumbling snore. Peeking inside, they saw bursts of fire shoot from Spike’s nose. The smoke that had drifted across Unicorn Land was coming from here!

“If he keeps snoring like this, he’ll burn our whole land,” Starwings whispered. Moonwings nodded firmly. They knew they had to stop him before their beautiful unicorn land was filled with smoke. They stepped inside the cave. The dragon was fast asleep. With every snore, huge fireballs burst out of his nose! They couldn't believe it was the same dragon they had heard stories about. He was purple and had spikes all over his body.

Moonwings requested the dragon, “Can you not snore please, it creates smoke and our beautiful land is getting dirty.” The dragon’s eyes snapped open. His purple spikes rattled as he growled, “How dare you wake me up? I can’t help my snoring- it’s not my fault!” Starwings’ hooves trembled, but she took a deep breath. “We didn’t mean to upset you.” The dragon’s voice softened. He lowered his head and sighed, “I wish I could stop. I feel hot and restless, but I don’t know how.” Moonwings and Starwings listened to him carefully.

They used their magic to help Spike get rid of the fire balls when sleeping. Their horns glowed bright silver and purple. Together they cast a spell of cool moonlight and stardust, wrapping Spike in a gentle shimmer that calmed his fiery snores. Slowly, the fireballs stopped, and the cave filled with a peaceful glow instead of smoke. Spike stretched and yawned. “Ahh… I feel so much better! Thank you, dear unicorns.”

Spike thanked the unicorns and they all became friends. From that day on nobody felt scared of Spike. Instead unicorns used the fire to toast their marshmallows. Unicorn Land shimmered with rainbows brighter than ever, as if the whole sky was celebrating their new friendship.
