Rudra and the Magic Paint Brush

By Rudraprayag Narkar

Rudra was not just any 8-year-old, he was an artist. He could paint anything! Give him a piece of paper and a few colors, and he would create something that looked real. His paintings were so full of life that teachers, family, and friends always praised his work.

One afternoon, Rudra was helping his grandmother clean the old storeroom at the back of their house. The storeroom was dark, dusty, and full of old boxes, spiderwebs, broken toys, and squeaky shelves.

He moved a shaky shelf, and something rolled out and bumped his foot. It was an old wooden paintbrush, shiny at the end. The moment Rudra picked it up, he felt a strange tickle in his fingers. The brush was very beautiful, and he felt very excited.

After he was done helping his grandmother, he jumped at the first chance he got to paint with the brush. Every painting he made with it looked extremely real.

‘The first painting he made was of a tiger and he got scared himself! Next, he painted a bowl of fruit, and each one looked ready to eat.

Days passed, and Rudra painted from morning to night. But then, something odd began to happen. The brush was no longer under Rudra’s control.

One morning, he woke up to find a painting of a castle on the sheet, a painting he had never made.

While he was still wondering what was happening, the brush floated out of its jar and began painting on its own!

It swirled colors and made shapes, without him touching the brush at all.

He panicked and looked for ways to stop it. Then he held the brush in his hand and noticed a spell written on it. It read:

“Doms will paint only what I want.”

Rudra said the spell aloud and the paintbrush stopped painting on its own.

Rudra could finally control the brush again. He decided to paint a beautiful house in the middle of a bright, green field.

Everyone loved the painting! His parents and teachers were proud of him.

His teacher even said it should be sent to an international painting competition. They were sure he had a good chance of winning it.

Rudra won the competition and was awarded a big, shiny trophy!
